CitusDB scales out the PostgreSQL RDBMS for big data by auto-sharding your database and replicating the shards multiple times across a cluster of commodity nodes which can be on premise, in the cloud, or a hybrid of the two. Scalable PostgreSQL

CitusDB shards your database and distributes it across a cluster of commodity servers. CitusDB looks like a single instance of PostgreSQL to your application but it is actually running a cluster of PostgreSQL instances and leveraging the storage and compute power of all the nodes in the cluster for big data. Additional nodes can be easily added and your shards can be redistributed across the cluster as your database scales.

Fast Analytics with Parallel Query Processing 

CitusDB distributes each query across all of the nodes in the cluster which house shards which are relevant to the query. This unleashes the power of the CPUs in the cluster, enabling queries to run much faster than on a single PostgreSQL node. For example, a query run on a twenty node cluster can run up to 20x faster than on a single node. This enables extremely high performance as a big data analytics database.

Hybrid Operational and Analytics Distributed Database

CitusDB is both an operational and an analytics distributed database with a high data ingestion rate. Unlike a data warehouse which is updated periodically, CitusDB is an operational database which intakes data in real-time and can provide fast analytics on your real-time big data.

CitusDB is an extension of the current version of PostgreSQL and is continuously updated to remain current with the latest version of PostgreSQL. Applications previously built on PostgreSQL can seamlessly switch to CitusDB.
